The Danish Bureau Detours is a colourful collective of various architects and artists from all over Arhus, Copenhagen, Kolding, Oslo and Berlin. Bureau Detours operates on the interface between architecture and the visual arts, in which they constantly seek out the extremes of public spaces. The result is entitled 2. City Generation, with which Bureau Detours creates new oases in the existing cityscape and so new relationships and interactivity between people come about. Especially for Festival The World of Witte de With, Bureau Detours brings you USE Station. It functions as a temporary base for a workshop on making furniture. Passers-by are invited to take the free furniture with them and design the Rotterdam streetscape according to their own wishes. The USE Station keeps track of the new furniture on a map. Bureau Detours uses the visitor, and so transforms the Rotterdam ‘art axis’ into an urban living room in which everyone can feel at home.
